All three 'have fear' instead of 'being afraid'. French and Italian keep PAVOR; Spanish took METUS, whose stressed open e became ie (miedo). Spanish pavor survives as a learned word for 'terror'.
Parenti inglesi: (Spanish miedo) meticulous, from METUS 'fear'
