L’histoire
A challenge was a formal withdrawal of trust: each sister put an 'un-' prefix on the verb 'to trust' (des-, dé-, s-). English defy is the French verb; challenge itself comes from CALUMNIA, as in calumny.
Parents anglais: defy, confide, fidelity
