L’histoire
Spanish added e- before s + consonant (espada); French did too, then lost the s and the t (épée). Italian kept spada untouched. Spanish espalda and French épaule 'shoulder' come from the diminutive SPATULA, 'shoulder blade'.
Parents anglais: spatula
